The goal is zero injuries

National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC has actively rolled out a breakthrough project — the Behavioral Safety Dialogues (BSD) module within the automated integrated Occupational Safety system. Its priority is the prevention of injuries caused by disregard for safety rules and personal protective equipment, rather than dealing with their consequences.

The automated Occupational Safety system is a digital mobile platform that provides mobility, sound judgement and speed of response to any sign of unsafe work.

According to Batyr Kotyrev, Managing Director and Chief Engineer of National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, the module allows every employee to record on a mobile device any incident, including a Near Miss, an unsafe act or unsafe conditions, or the exercise of their right to stop unsafe work.

“Only by working together as one team will we be able to reach our goal of zero injuries!” Batyr Kotyrev said.

The module is being launched in stages. Work on installing the mobile application began on 30 March this year at the Company’s head office and will finish in the Aktobe region, covering more than 120,000 employees.

Employee registration is still under way. To date, 49,620 people have been registered in the system.

According to specialists, the first results are already in — more than 2,400 behavioral safety dialogues. A contest was even held for the most active users of the system.

“I want to say a big THANK you to the winners in the “Commitment to the principles of safe work” category, who did not remain indifferent and recorded Unsafe Acts, Unsafe Conditions, Work Stoppages and Near Misses, thereby possibly preventing an incident that could have led to an injury or even a fatality,” Batyr Kotyrev stressed.
